Who Can Do a PAT Test ?
At present any competent person to carry out PAT testing in New Zealand ( legislation is coming to change this) . In practice what this means is that anyone can do this after some training or clear instruction. This person needs to be able to take sensible precautions, such as switching off etc. They also need to be taught what to look for when carrying out testing.
The person carrying out the PAT testing will need to know the limit of their expertise and know when to pass matters to a more skilled person. For example the person carrying out the PAT testing may be competent in the testing, but might not be skilled enough to carry out any repairs.
